Linked undergraduate units
It is proposed a student will spend twelve weeks (equivalent to one semester) or an intensive summer/winter period, in which students can take units offered by any of the three partners. The units will include significant fieldwork components. The units will be available not only to undergraduates at partner institutions but also to overseas students from US and European universities. Selected students will receive support to cover travel and subsistence for up to twelve weeks.
Students considering applying for this either a semester swap or undertaking a short intensive unit should do the following:
1. Check the ANNIMS Semester Swap and Intensive Short Courses Guide (link from the bottom of this page) for descriptions of marine-related subjects available through the ANNiMS Program.
2. Once you have decided on the subject(s) you would like to take at a distant university, you should first check with your course co-ordinator to check whether you can count the unit towards your degree. Once you have established this, you should then contact the nominated ANNiMS contact person at your home university (contact people are listed at the bottom of this page) and your contact person will then direct your request to the subject coordinator(s) at the distant university to determine whether you meet the prerequisites.
3. On receipt of advice that you are eligible to enrol in a subject as a distant university, you should check with your degree coordinator at your home university that the subjects(s) you wish to take at the distant university are compatible with the structure of the degree in which you are enrolled at your home university.
4. Once you are advised that you are accepted into a unit/subject at a distant university, and that the selected subjects are compatible with the degree structure at your home university, then you need to complete the forms for cross-institutional enrolment. This will enable you to attend subjects at the distant university and count them towards your degree at your home university.
You need to complete three forms to arrange a cross institutional enrolment: (1) a cross institutional enrolment form for the ‘inbound’ distant university; (2) a cross institutional enrolment form from your home university (the ‘outbound’ university); and (3) a HECS/HELP form.
For example, a JCU student wishing to study at UTAS will need to complete a UTAS Incoming Cross Institutional Application for Admission & Enrolment Form, a JCU Application for Cross Institutional Enrolment Form, and also a HECS/HELP form. These forms are available from the links at the bottom of this page.
5. You now need to forward to the ANNiMS contact person at your home university the three completed forms listed under Step 4 above, an ANNIMS funding application form (available from the link at the bottom of this page), and a copy of your academic transcript.
6. The contact person at your university will forward all of your forms to the Manager of the Network, Bernadette Ulbrich-Hooper, for approval of funding to cover flights and accommodation expenses.
7. Once approval has been granted, the home university contact person will then liaise with you to assist with booking flights and accommodation.
