Australian National Network in Marine Science

2009 ANNiMS Conference

The title of the 2009 conference was “Marine Science in Tropical, Temperate and Southern Oceans”, and it was a unique opportunity for participants to present papers and posters in a relaxed and supportive environment and, more importantly, gave them the opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate and network.
Speakers at the conference included Professor Andrew Brierley (University of St Andrews, Scotland), Dr Beth Fulton (CSIRO), Dr Will Howard (ACE CRC), Dr Julia Jabour (UTAS), Professor Craig Johnson (UTAS) and Dr Ken Ridgway (CSIRO).

Students were fully funded to attend the conference, including return economy air fares from their place of residence, accommodation and meals and transport.

From all the reports and from the feedback received, the conference was an overwhelming success.  Student feedback was that the conference provided a great opportunity to present their research in a non-threatening environment and that the opportunity to network was invaluable.

We had 54 student delegates attend and either presented a paper or poster.  This gave the students invaluable experience presenting to their contemporaries and become familiar with the way scientific conferences are run.
